SHORT COURSES 2008

We are increasingly experiencing requests from those who do not wish to undertake a full qualification but are looking to study just certain subjects for personal interest or home use. Unless you are already hold qualifications, these subjects will give you all the learning you desire but will not provide you with a Government recognised certificate of competency for full Beauty Therapy qualifications. However they will give you a good understanding of the subject concerned and you will be provided with a Certificate of Attendance from Beauty Skills Academy (or in some cases a Certificate of Attainment - ask for details as some courses can be credited towards further study)

The idea of these courses is for you to enjoy your new skills and use them at home and may give some a taste for studying further and experiencing the joy of Beauty Therapy and deciding if they would like to do certain units as purely a “hobby” or starting a new career! Qualified beauty therapists are in huge demand and the government has declared this area as a skills shortage field.

In all cases all learning materials and products are fully inclusive and there is no need to purchase anything from the College unless you require items for use at home. If you do wish to buy any products these are available at hugely discounted student prices.

Current Courses on offer are:

Manicure and Pedicare (plus Nail Science)

This course comprises one theory subject to do by work book in your own time plus 4 weeks of face to face attendance and practical learning at the College. Workbook can be completed at any time and we offer full tutor support by telephone and email.
Compulsory attendance at College is required at the collage for two nights per week (Tuesday and Wednesdays 6.00 to 9.00 pm) for four weeks only. Daytime options are also available - call us for details. 
26th and 27th February, 4th and 5th March, 11th and 12th of March and the 18th and 19th of March.
Price $599 payable before commencement.

Make Up Basic

This includes teaching on how to maximize good features and minimize poor features; Make Up for Weddings and formals; basic knowledge of lighting and photographic make up and more. There is one small unit to complete by workbook but otherwise all learning is done face to face with a renowned make up artist/trainer at college. Compulsory attendance at College is as follows:5 Sundays – 30th March, 6th April, 20th April, 27th April and 4th May. 10am to 4pm.

Fully inclusive price -$999. Models are required (free of charge) on some dates.

Advanced Make Up

This short course builds on the knowledge gained above on basic make up, so can only be undertaken by those who have extensive make up experience or completed Makeup Basic (see above) or who already hold a Certificate III, IV or Diploma. This course covers make up in more depth and is particularly suited to those who have a keen interest in advanced Make Up or want to pursue a future career in the field.

The course includes:

In depth knowledge of lighting and photographic make up and remedial camouflage and basic special effects. You will be taught how to completely cover birthmarks, tattoos, scars etc for special occasions such as weddings, formals and portraits and more.

Compulsory attendance at College is for five Sundays 10.00 to 4.00 pm. Call us for further details. Models will be required on some dates ( free of charge.)

Hair styling for weddings , formals and photographic shoots

This unit covers basic hairstyling for photo shoots and “up styles” for weddings and formals for those who are not hairdressers.

Compulsory attendance will be over 2 – 3 Sundays following the above units.

A note about your tutor:

All practical sessions are taught by a famous make up artist who works with TV, film and photographers. This highly experienced and talented lady is also a fully qualified hairdresser, who currently arranges hair for her stars and clients and so has many valuable skills to pass on to you.

Full waxing and tinting course

This unit is very comprehensive and includes full body (male and female) and facial waxing and tinting of eyebrows and lashes, both theory and full practical sessions, as per the complete Government Training Package for qualification. Small workbook time is required in your own time with full tutor support and you are offered full assessment of your skills. Please note that models (free of charge) may be required on some dates and that bikini line is taught to mini G string level. Additional Brazilian is offered after this course (see below.)

Compulsory college attendance is required for 10 weeks from 01 July on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings 6pm until 9pm

Mini waxing course

This workshop is a basic introduction to facial and body waxing and includes basic trichology of hair growth; appropriate use of various waxing products; demonstrations and the opportunity to practice basic skills on your own models. No assessment is included and the course is aimed at those who wish to use skills for their own and family use.

This course will run on 2 consecutive Sundays. Price $299 fully inclusive and will include special offers for wax products to be bought for home use if desired.

Brazilian Waxing (male and female)

This I day workshop will combine some theory, use of appropriate waxing products, demonstration and assessment on your own models and a certificate will be provided. Our trainer will teach you how to perform this service, which is in ever increasing demand, in a way that ensures no embarrassment or discomfort for therapist or client. Models (at no charge, must be provided this day – one male and one female.)

All applicants must be experienced waxers, or have completed the units above, or will be those who are fully qualified at Cert III, IV or Diploma level.

Price $249 fully inclusive with special offer wax prices offered on the day.

Advanced Nail courses.

Theses courses are for experienced Nail technicians only. There are designed to build their skills learnt in Certificate II nail technology. They will include:
